We had a very productive discussion and farm tour with SNV.
Their main focus is integration of Agriculture with environment for sustainable Agriculture. We gave them historical background of the Cooperative being anchored on nature Conservation. Avocado playing a dual purposes for farmers, both as an economic and conservation sustainable crop. This is an agricultural crop relying entirely on use of organic materials both as pesticide and fertilizer. It is a demand driven organic crop.
On farm visit they noted the conservation nature of the crop. We have a vision of producing our own organic fertilizers for use by our farmers and equally production of very affordable biodigestors to limit use of firewood at our homes. With the provision of cheaper biodigestors, farmers will be able to get ready usable fertilizers in form of slurry. We also intend to establish beekeeping as sideline value addition to Avocado production since bees are a catalyst of increased Avocado production.
