Chairman’s Desk

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the launching of our Society official website (www.berur.co.ke) today 3rd October, 2020. This formal launch marks the passage of 9 months after registration of the Coop. The registration of this Society has been possible due to the foresightedness of a few individuals who sat down sacrificing both their time and resources. It called for painstaking critical thinking! There were no money, existing structures and anything to anchor on. I am glad their sitting to plan for it’s start has come into success.Immediately this society was registered the long trek to the future started, and I am proud to be it’s first Chairman to start the long trek.I call for God’s grace to give me the wisdom to lead Berur Horticultural Cooperative Society to success.
In this short period, what have we done?We have done the following:-
1. Laying down of leadership structures e.g.office records,filing system,identification of grassroot Avocado leaders,etc.
2. Getting and contracting a good competitive buyer,Biofarm Ltd.
3. Creation of awareness of existence of brokers who have been exploiting farmers ever since.
4. Membership into Avocado Association of Kenya.
5. Active collaborative partnership with Bomet County Government, WWF,AAK,National Government, Isei Water Resources, Mara River Water Users Association, Community and Political leadership among other partners.

What is currently on plan?
1. In collaboration with the County Government, we have laid down farmers training structures on Avocado farm management. We are now writing an Avocado Farmers training Manual.
2. Registration of farmers into the society. Our current registered members stand at 300 farmers.
3. Procurement of affordable pest traps and pruning scissors for farmers.
4. Arrangements for competitive prices for Avocado for the next season.
5. Sensitization training on Avocado planting.
6. Identification of Society’s office and laying down of office structures.
7. Establishment of this website as a tool for dissemination of information of news and latest research on
Avocado farming.
8. And of great and significant importance is an on going funding proposal to EU. We are writing this proposal together with Biofarms Ltd as lead applicant.

In conclusion, I wish to assure everyone that we have purpose to run this society in a transparent and efficient manner.We as officials of this Society have what it’s takes to run the Society to greater height. Thank you very much and God bless.
