Procal Kenya Visit

This is Procal Kenya team from 7 counties bordering Mau forest Complex (400000 HA.). They visited Berur Horticultural Cooperative Society office and they did some training for the participants.

They come from Elkeyo Maralwet, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Narok and Nakuru. The main aim visit was to undertake a review of forest current status in order to work on the degraded areas for rehabilitation and mitigation against further destruction.
Also to consider is on-farm tree planting Initiatives for each farmer plan respective farms for appropriate for fuelwood ,timber and fencing poles.

Courtesy call from Owen Singura who works with Naro ,(National agricultural research institute) Uganda.

Objective of his visit is to understand more on Hass avocado farming in Kenya ranging from the different varieties of Hass, different spacing, how big avocado could grow at different years, different altitude and agroecology zones suitable for this Hass variety, water need and possibilities to grow the crop under rain feed.

Scions harvesting since Uganda is behind of us in avocado farming. Naro want to take a lead role as they venture in avocado farming. Owen was really impressed on success stories from our smallholder farmers in Kenya. He went back on Wednesday and we will keep communicating to share more knowledge and experience.
